Frans Timmermans, Executive Vice President of the European Commission, participates with local authorities and relatives of the victims in the commemoration of the 79th anniversary of the Nazi-fascist massacre in Cibeno at the former concentration camp of Fossoli. On July 12, 1944, the SS seized 67 “political” detainees to slaughter them in the nearby shooting range. Vice President Timmermans’ visit to the annual ceremony follows two years after the historic presence of European Parliament President David Sassoli and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, confirming the institutions’ interest in the Fossoli Camp, where an important chapter of Europe’s history was written.
