Guided visit to the memorial of the women's prison of las Corts

October 23rd and 24th - The former women's prison of Las Corts, Barcelona

Was one of the places of repression of the Civil War and Franco's dictatorship

On 24 October, coinciding with the REMEMCHILD congress held on 23 and 24 October, a guided visit was made to the memorial of the former women’s prison of Las Corts. This memorial, inaugurated in 2019, recovers the memory of this prison which between 1936 and 1953 was one of the places of repression of the Civil War and Franco’s dictatorship, and where dozens of women -many with their children- were imprisoned.

The visit was led by Dr. Nuria Ricart, who together with Fernando Hernández Holgado, historian and coordinator of the project ‘Memoria Prisión de les Corts’, was responsible for the installation of the memorial, promoted by various memory associations in the neighbourhood. The visit was free and open to the public at the congress. During this visit, the memorial, the struggle for the recovery of the space, the urban delimitation and the history of the imprisoned women were explained.
