The Departmental Council of Haute-Garonne and the Departmental Museum of Resistance and Deportation join forces to mark the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of France.
On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of France, the Departmental Council and the Departmental Museum of Resistance and Deportation have organised a series of events in Haute-Garonne, approved by the State services, including the National Office for Combatants and War Victims (ONaCVG).
“Haute-Garonne is a land of Resistance, where exceptional destinies have been played out, but which has also seen the worst barbarism on its soil. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of France and Toulouse, we pay tribute to the heroes and heroines of the Liberation in Toulouse, and to the maquis of the department, thanks to the remarkable work carried out by the Musée départemental de la Résistance & de la Déportation”, underlines Sébastien Vincini, President of the Departmental Council of Haute-Garonne.
“Then as now, we must never forget the victims of the Deportation and the Resistance figures who fought against Nazi barbarity in the name of freedom. It is vital that we pass on to the younger generations the memory of the republican commitment of these men and women, resisters and maquisards, who embodied in our collective memory the values of the Republic and a new destiny for humanity, restoring hope to our country”, added Sébastien Vincini.
